Taken from her ‘Axiom Pt.2’ EP released in December 2016, dark soul songstress Basheba drops opulent visuals for lead track ‘Platinum & Gold’.
“The video to Platinum & Gold was inspired by the idea of transformation. With myself being the subject, like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. We wanted to exude luxury. With the rich colours and textures of the clothes and the makeup. The video is simple but captivating thanks to Vasillisa Forbes and Luke Nugent’s creative collaboration.”
From watching Basheba’s previous videos it’s evident that the north Lononder has a flair for creating engaging and moving visuals. ‘Platinum & Gold’ is no exception as the beautifully shot video (directed by Vasilisa Forbes with art direction from Luke Nugent) is the perfect foil for her haunting vocal delivery and sparse production courtesy of XVR BLK. Known for combining break beat and jungle rhythms in previous work, ‘Platinum & Gold’ continues to show a progression in sound for the young Londoner. Her ‘from the heart’ lyrics and dark soulful vocal delivery always stands out in her music, and it’s this which she has been able translate effortlessly to other areas like trip hop, bass and RnB. It is the lead track taken from her latest EP ‘Axiom Pt. 2’ which is out now on iTunes and Spotify (via her own label Y.O.B Records) and is the second instalment of the ‘Axiom’ EP which she dropped in April 2016.
Previous track ‘Shame’, also taken from ‘Axiom Pt. 2’ garnered support from EDM Network’s tastemaker channel ‘Your Secret’ and along with other releases this year ‘Come Back To Me’ and ‘Don’t Go’ they have all helped Basheba stock rise with support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 1 Xtra, BBC Introducing (1xtra Introducing track of the week), 6 Music, Amazing Radio, Reprezent, Hoxton Radio, SBTV, Complex, Afropunk, The 405, Fred Perry, Stupid Dope and much more. Other highlights include; a sync on SKY Sports, supporting Etta Bond live and being heavily supported by Mobo since featuring as one of their Unsung Top 10.
