To celebrate International Women’s Day last week, Grammy Nominated producer Kaskade dropped a surprise collaboration with rising independent UK artist Laura Lamn and fellow producer S2_COOL. He made their version of Chaka Khan’s classic ‘I’m Every Woman’ available for free download via his Soundcloud channel and dedicated it as a tribute to the powerful women in his life, both personal and professional, past and present. Explaining;
“Cos the ladies busy changing this world need music to do it by”
The sleazy house jam has more than a nod to 80s electro funk, with a chorus hook sang by S2_COOL (who co produced the track), there’s also 808 snares, funky stabs and a classic electro bass sound. The star of the show is LDN based rapper/vocalist Laura Lamn, who flew out to the states last year to work with Kaskade after being discovered online. She brings a quirky word play and playful approach to rapping which is the perfect foil to the laid back groove.
The all female cast music video was shot in a boxing gym in South East London and features hula hoop crew Marawa’s Majorettes. Animated graphics help add a splash of colour to the already playful proceedings.
Laura’s previous offering, the late night house inspired track ‘Move It Like You Mean It’ further showcases her flair for writing personal and engaging, hook based singles, marking her as one to watch this year. It went on to gain radio support from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music. We’ve been told to ‘watch this space for more releases from Laura in 2017’.
